RCS Haven carries out socio-economic research with CRCEES, University of Glasgow

 

A research conference, organised in conjunction with RCS Haven, was recently held at the Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies (CRCEES), University of Glasgow, which focussed on the problems of researching socio-economic transformation in Russia. Members of RCS Haven were involved in the research group, which also included researchers from the Institute of Social and Economic Studies of Population at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hart Group and Nizhny Novgorod State University. The group undertook a study on poverty, which was commissioned by the UK Department of International Development. Martin Kalvert, a postgraduate student in CRCEES, has consequently received backing to create an online Russian research community, and CRCEES has given support to close research co-operation between its own member departments and the Department of Politics at the University, in order to further this research.

Comparative research carried out by researchers in Nizhny Novgorod and West Dunbartonshire considered the role of NGO’s in tackling poverty in both regions was delivered at the conference. Members of RCS Haven conducted research on foreign academic publications in the field of socio-economics, content analysis of the Anglophone media and internet, population censuses and focus group analysis.
