Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.
 
RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.

Russian Haven in Scotland has made a successful appeal to the Russian Federation's Civic Chamber Commission on Public Diplomacy and Support for Compatriots Living Abroad, receiving support in its plan to engage with the "Russian Corner" project.

The project was set up by the Civic Chamber and the Russian Peace Foundation in December 2014. Its principle aims include the popularisation, preservation and dissemination of the Russian language abroad through the use of state-of-the-art multimedia technology, interactive games and educational manuals. Come along to one of  Police Scotland's recruitment events detailed below, where they will detail the recruitment processes and provide you with invaluable advice regarding your application and the selection requirements, along with an insight into the role of a Police Officer.

EDUCATION 

The School of Russian Centre in Scotland  Haven 
Classes for children are based on Russian teaching methods for primary school level native and non-native speakers.
In the current school year, lessons for all classes except the youngest take place between 11.00 and 2.00pm on Saturdays at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]

Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Fridays from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.

Classes for those who want to study Russian and English language.

Ivan Goncharov (1812-1891), one of the most prominent Russian 19th-c. Writers, is well- known for his novel Oblomov (1859) that portrays the notion of idleness in the context of Russian modernization. The novel explores the construction of Russian and European identities in relation to food, travel, and cultural trends.

Director Margy Kinmoth’s documentary film focuses on the Russian avant-garde movement in the USSR. The film tells the stories of artists like Chagall, Kandinsky and Malevich and their continued influence on contemporary art movements. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director.

3 December, 4.00-5.00pm
Director Alexey Uchitel will share his experience working with international actors on a film about Tsar Nicholas II and his lover, a famous ballerina. The film is still in post-production and currently being investigated to determine if it falls under the category of “anti-Russian and anti-religious provocation”. The film and discussion will be in Russian with English subtitles/translation provided. Tickets are £12 full price, £10 for FOPH, students and seniors. 4 December, 2.00pm
Musicians Yuliya Chaplina (on pianoforte) and Alexia Mankovskaya (vocals) will hold a concert of Tchaikovsky’s music for children ages 4 and up.
This concert is part of a series called Classics for Kids and is both entertaining and interactive.

Interior designer Daria Razumikhina will talk about how Russian folk fashion and fabrics influence her design, which she calls Ethnofuturism.

Come to the Pushkin House Wine Club to learn about the first trip on the Trans-Siberian Express, which left from Moscow on 5 October, 1916, and taste the styles of wine that were popular in Russia at the time. The wines will be accompanied by a cheese and charcuterie platter. There will be a quiz at the end and the winner will take home a prize wine. Tickets are £25.

Toby Bromige, a final year PhD student at Royal Holloway, University of London, will discuss the role of Armenians in the Byzantine Empire between AD 950 and 1084.

Kristin Milward, Elena Dobson and Antony Wood will read three of Pushkin’s verse “fairy tales”: The Bridegroom, The Tale of the Fisherman and the Little Fish, and The Tale of the Golden Cockerel.

Join OperaCoast for an evening of operatic arias based on Russian fairy tales and folklore, performed by OperaCoast soloists. This performance is part of the Sing Russian course, which OperaCoast runs to allow non-Russian speaking professional singers to perform Russian repertoire in the original language. 17 and 18 December, 11.00am-4.00pm
The group “Mama and Malysh” is happy to invite you to the New Year’s Party. There will be three groups (11.00am-12.00pm; 1.00-2.00pm; and 3.00-4.00pm). The kids will get a visit from Santa and the Snow Maiden and participate in interactive games, and will bring home sweet treats form Santa and a Christmas wreath. Costumes welcome! Tickets are £30 for one adult and one child, and £10 for an extra ticket.
