Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.

RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.


NEWS

Meeting regarding the Russian exams within the British educational system

 
The Russian School at RCS Haven warmly invites you for a meeting on 16 September at 13.00 at the Adelphi-Centre, 12 Commercial Road, G5 0PQ, regarding the following Russian exams within the British educational system:
 
GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and,
GCE Advanced Level (A-Level).
 
During this meeting school representatives will discuss:
  • The accreditation of RCS Haven
  • The structure and features of exams
  • Learning and training options
  • Registration and examination procedures
We will also answer any questions you may have.

Treasure Island at the TOT Theatre

VACANCIES

 
Police Scotland continues to encourage members of ethnic minorities to apply for the job and once again refers to the Russian-speaking community.
Police Scotland are soon to run an Introduction to Policing Programme course in Aberdeen in September.
The course is open only to those who identify from minority ethnic backgrounds and are interested in a career as a police officer.
The 4 day course is designed to provide candidates with a familiarisation of policing before they are encouraged to apply to become a police officer with support from the Positive Action Team.

RCS Haven is looking for Chess and Russian teachers for the Saturday school.
Also, we are looking for volunteers.

EDUCATION 

The School of Russian Centre in Scotland  Haven 
Classes for children are based on Russian teaching methods for primary school level native and non-native speakers.
In the current school year, lessons for all classes except the youngest take place between 11.00 and 2.00pm on Saturdays at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]

Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Fridays from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.

Russian and English language courses for adults 
Classes for those who want to study Russian and English language.
Russian lessons on Mondays at Beginners from 17.30 to 19.00; Advanced from 19.00 to 20.00, Intensive Beginners group on Wednesdays from 18.00. to 19.30 (11 Duke Street) and Saturdays at 11.00 (Adelphi Centre).
English lessons on Thursdays at 19.00.

A literary conversation in Russian with the internationally renowned writer Ludmila Ulitskaya
She is modern Russian novelist and short-story writer and her works include Sonechka (1993), Medea and her Children (1996), The Funeral Party (1997), The Kukotsky Enigma (winner of the Russian Booker Prize, 2001), Daniel Stein, Interpreter (2006) and The Big Green Tent (2011). In 2014, she was awarded the Austrian State Prize for European Literature for her oeuvre.

An exhibition of the artwork at the Chelsea Cookhouse Gallery.
Chelsea College of Arts presents a collaborative exhibition «Re Re Re:», dedicated to the ideas of Hannah Arendt in her work «Vita activa, or the Human Condition». The name of the exhibition suggests the possibility of an open conversation between the participants having different points of view. The exhibition aims to point out the eternal potential hidden in the collective thinking. It invites guests to think of the vital need of the modern society in exchanging opinions to fight tyranny. After a successful tour with Carmen and Madama Butterfly last year, Russian State Opera returns with another beautiful production of one of the greatest opera classics – Tosca. Following the Russian Revolution, artists were torn between radical non-objectivity on the one hand, and a contempt for the bourgeois tradition of ‘easel painting’ on the other. Between these extremes, several artists pursued a quieter middle path. Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin was a case in point.
