Russian school “Znanie” and the London office of Rossotrudnichestvo announced the winners of the All-Britain poem readers contest. We are proud that our student Dana Freimute from Russian School at RCS Haven won one of the main prizes, the second year round!  The contest “What a Wonderful World!” was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Second World War. It was aiming to develop creativity, mutual understanding and tolerance of different cultures in children and teenagers as well as identifying the most talented readers. Congratulations to Dana!  

Please note that our Russian and English language classes for adults will resume after the summer break on Monday 31st August. Russian school for children in Glasgow reopens on 29th August. On 22nd of July in the central library of Narva (Estonia) there was a presentation of a novel by a Russian-speaking writer Viktor Bulkin, who is based in Glasgow.   This is a family story about the World War 2.   Viktor Bulkin was working on this novel being in Glasgow for the last four years. Soon meeting with Glaswegian readers is going to be held. Time and venue is to be confirmed. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio. Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.

On 13th June, the exam will be held for children who attend Combat self-defense classes.   One more year of training is finished and it's time to show all the skills what they have learned. The program includes a demonstration of punches and kicks technique, defence technique, strength exercises, acrobatics and throwing techniques.   Like it was at last year exam, kids should be able to use all their skills in the real fight in the protective equipment.   The examiners committee is Vadim Kolganov (chair), Timur Khismatullin and Evgenia Yakushina.   Examiners who successfully pass the exam will be upgraded to next level with appropriate belt and awarded with diplomas.   Short movie about exam held last summer in Glasg

On the 27th of May RCS Haven will be holding the last SQA Russian Higher exam. It will be sat by 8 students who were preparing for it for the whole last year and passing intermediate assessments. Let’s wish them luck. To replace the SQA Higher format, two new Russian for Life and Work Awards qualifications were introduced with numerous levels of complexity, highest of which, according to their creators’ ideas, are fully comparable to the abolished exam. RCS Haven is beginning to register students wishing to get this qualification next year. Compared to Russian Higher, this qualification is more flexible and will allow students with various levels of preparedness to sit the exams in accordance with the level selected. Receipt of this certificate gives extra points when applying for both college and university courses, as well as being an important element for one’s CV, proving the level of knowledge.

The school at the Russian Centre in Scotland Haven is celebrating Victory Day the 9th of May.   At the classes, teachers will be telling children about the unforgettable events of World War II and its heroes. The children of the class managed by Victoria Zierwogel were learning poems and taking part in the competition organised by Znanie schools network. In the evening on 9th of May children and their parents will gather for the Victory 70 years’ anniversary Gala Concert. One of the school competition winners, Dana Freimuta, will be reading the poems. Let’s meet together on 9th of May at 16:30 at Banqueting Suite, Glasgow City Chambers, 281 George Square.
